Scope and Contents

Founded by Franklin W. Olin in 1898 in East Alton, Illinois. Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1931 and then became a division of Olin Corporation, Incorporated in 1944. The Western brand was kept, but changed divisions over the years. These divisions include the Arms and Ammunition (1952) and Winchester-Western (1956) all under the company name of Olin Corporation, Incorporated
