In 2024, students at universities across the country formed encampments and protests on behalf of Gaza. At Princeton University, the "Popular University for Gaza" was established April 25, 2024 and closed on May 15, 2024, according to the Daily Princetonian.
These items were collected from June to August 2024, by the Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab.
From the donor: " The Popular University for Gaza at Princeton University was established on April 25, 2024 in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the occupation and apartheid to which Palestinians are subjected to under the zionist entity. The demands of the Popular University for Gaza include an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and for the university to divest from entities who profit from or engage in the zionist enitity’s military campaign, apartheid, and occupation. The Popular University for Gaza started in front of McCosh Hall and later relocated to Cannon Green Lawn. It was a space that welcomed people of all nationalities, ethnicities, religious backgrounds, genders, abilities, and sexual orientations. The Popular University for Gaza is part of a global student intifada built on compassion, service, and solidarity for marginalized people around the globe. Members of the student body, staff, faculty, and community gathered daily to maintain the space together, to eat together, to make art together, to grieve together, and to reflect together. On any given day, one could find programming such as religious services, mealtimes, teach-ins, film screenings, art builds, reading groups, rallies, and more."
